Re: Demand for Retraction and Cessation of Defamatory Statements
Dear Montana Clean Water:
This firm represents Dry-Redwater Regional Water Authority (DRWA) and we are writing to formally demand the immediate retraction of false and defamatory statements made by your organization against DRWA.
Your recent public communications recklessly and falsely accuse DRWA of collusion with the Montana Department of Natural Resources (DNRC) and Richland County in connection with a Big Horn water permit application. These accusations are completely baseless, misleading, defamatory, and designed to create public distrust and fear about water access and change. Specific falsehoods include, but are not limited to:
-
Allegations that DRWA engaged in “backdoor dealings” with DNRC and county officials;
-
Claims that DRWA’s water permit activities threaten local agricultural water rights; and
-
Implications that Richland County leaders acted improperly or in secret coordination with DRWA.
All permit processes involving DRWA have adhered strictly to legal, regulatory, and transparency requirements. No special treatment has been granted, and no harm to local agriculture has been caused by DRWA’s actions.
We demand that Montana Clean Water immediately:
-
Issue a full public retraction of the defamatory claims linking DRWA to the Big Horn water permit controversy; and
-
Cease and desist from further publication or dissemination of false or misleading information regarding DRWA.
If you do not comply with this demand, DRWA may take appropriate legal action to protect its reputation and operations.
Regards,
